Hydrofacial

Treatments

Hydrofacials are intense facials that are very popular due to its many beneficial effects on the skin. It is a customized facial that is tailored based on skin type, skin concerns and skin sensitivity.

Hydrofacials are also know by the popular trade name hydrafacial®. The benefits and the active ingredients used to provide optimal outcomes are comparable.

During the hydrofacial treatment, water pressure is utitlized to remove skin impurities, provides essential nutrients that cleanses and hydrates while improving the quality of the epidermis. The skin is oxygenated, fines lines appear softer, and collagen and elastin stimulation are enhanced.

The goals of the hydrofacial treatment is to exfoliate, cleanse, extract, and provide hydration to the skin. It is essentially a form of microdermabrasion however water is added, hence the term ‘hydro-microdermabrasion.”

These group of medications are also called “neurotoxins” because they block chemical signals from nerves, preventing muscle contraction.

Hydrofacials utilizes a specialized mechanical suctioning wand which provides deep cleansing, chemical peel actions and exfoliation. A oxygen misting spray allows essential serums such as hyaluronic acid to be absorbed into the the skin which further promotes hydration during the procedure. The end result is the removal of dead skin cells; removal of pore clogging sebum, dirt, and other impurities while hydrating the skin.

We use the following steps during our hydrafacial treatments:

  • Pre-cleanse;
  • Ultrasonic scrubber/vibrating spatula to remove dead skin cells in the stratum corneum;
  • Hydrodermabrasion suctioning wand for deep cleanse;
  • Cold hammer application to decrease inflammation and calm redness;
  • Oxygen spray to infuse skin with hydrating serums, vitamins and nutrients.

Optional add-ons include:

  • Bipolar radio frequency wand used to stimulate and regenerate fibroblasts and elastin; correct skin lucidity and stimulate collagen production;
  • 1 MHz ultrasound wand used to increase circulation, improve blood flow and enhance nutrient absorption; also beneficial for post surgical patients to increase lymphatic flow.

Frequently asked questions:

While hydrofacials can be used in pregnancy, the use of products with salicylic acid should be avoided. Fortunately with hydrofacials, ingredients are customized and salicylic acid can be omitted from the treatment.

The length of treatment is approximately 45 minutes to one hour. The treatments are customized, and based on the purchase of add-ons, length of treatment could be prolonged by 15 minute intervals.

The use of bipolar radio frequency is an add-on that is beneficial to skin by stimulating and regenerating fibroblast and elastin. With time, clients will notice a reduction in skin flaccidity, an increase in collagen stimulation and skin tightening.

Microdermabrasion treatments are great for gentle exfoliation of the skin. Diamond crystals are used to provide exfoliation for treatment of fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, and acne scars. Microdermabrasion treatments alone do provide the hydrating action of the hydrofacial treatments.

While a single treatment will show improvements, the effects of a hydrafacial last about one month, and clients should schedule hydrofacial treatments every 4 to 5 weeks in order maximize and see optimal long-term benefits and changes to skin quality.

At DMA Aesthetics and Skincare Clinic, the hydrafacial procedure is combined with LED light therapy which has immense benefits for acne prone skin and premature aging. The starting cost is $250, with optional add-ons: “ultrasound therapy” to improve circulation and nutrient absorption, and “bipolar radio frequency” to tighten skin and improve the signs of aging. These add-ons are $50 each. The add-ons also include treatment to the neck and chest.

The hydra facial is not a painful procedure but actually quite relaxing for our clients. The hydrodermabrasion wand has a suctioning device that could be adjusted if the suctioning becomes uncomfortable. We also manually make adjustment to more sensitive areas close to the eyes and mouth. We encourage our clients to  inform us if they are uncomfortable so adjustments can be made.
