Dermal Fillers

“Dermal Fillers” are minimally invasive procedures, used to plump thin lips, enhance facial contours by adding volume, treat deep static wrinkles and fill in scars. Dermal filler injectables are placed in different depths to augment facial features.

What to expect when receiving dermal fillers at DMA Aesthetics and Skincare Clinic?

A good faith exam is performed prior to receiving dermal fillers. We will review your medical history, current medications, and allergies. Some medication’s may increase the complications of dermal fillers. Dermal fillers cannot be placed where there are active skin sores, pimples, rashes or hives, cysts or herpes infections.

Facial assessment and mapping are performed to determine areas to be augmented.

Photographs are taken for electronic medical documentation purposes and examine before and after treatment differences.

Treatment site is throughly cleansed with an anti-bacterial agent

An anesthetic cream or lidocaine injection is performed to numb the area to be treated

(depending on the type of filler and area); massage, reevaluation, and additional filler as needed

After initial treatment, area may appear to be overfilled due to swelling in the area.

What are dermal fillers made from?

Most dermal fillers are made with Hyaluronic acid: A natural substance found in the body in soft connective tissue in the skin and other areas. Other types of fillers include: Calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse), Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) (sculptra) and Polymethlmethacrylate (PMMA) (Bellafill).

Possible complications of dermal filler treatments include:

  • Mild bruising and swelling may occur and last a few hours to a few days.
  • Bleeding, bruising, infection, lumps, ability to palpate the filler under the skin surface, skin necrosis with vascular occlusion, skin rash, redness, swelling, under or over correction of wrinkles.
  • An intended injection into a blood vessel may cause vascular occlusion.
  • Rare but serious complications may occur with the administration of dermal fillers. Notify our office if you experience bleeding or pain, signs of infection at the injection site such as warmth or redness.
